TORQUAY

Vibrant and cheerful, Torquay is set in a magnificent horseshoe-shaped bay. Its history is bound up in the Napoleonic Wars when the town became a watering hole for the elite who could no longer visit continental Europe and were greatly struck by its beauty and mild climate. Did you know? Napoleon was held captive in Tor Bay for two days and is reported to have exclaimed ‘Quel Bon Pays’ (what a lovely country).

Nowadays you can still experience the elegant Victorian villas, breathtaking marina views, the palm-lined promenade, beautiful sandy beaches and many family attractions. The Torquay museum, Kents Cavern and Dinosaur World are popular with guests and you are also spoilt for choice with bars, restaurants and pavement cafes. The theatre, historical Torre Abbey and the Agatha Christie mile are also available to visit.

COCKINGTON

On the edge of Torquay, this green flag award-winning village offers preserved traditional thatched cottages, open green space, gardens, and arts & crafts workshops. Cockington also provides lovely surroundings for registry office weddings and is now home to the local cricket grounds. The Court was the mansion house of the Mallock family, and remains a focal point of the estate.

The Cimon guest house is 1.8 miles away, a short drive or a glorious half hour walk to this beautiful village.

BRIXHAM

At the southern end of Torbay, lies the traditional fishing harbour of Brixham. Buzzing from early in the morning when the fish auctions are held, until late in the evening when seafood restaurants are filled with jolly diners and sea shanties can be heard in the local hostelries. It is home to the replica of Drake’s Golden Hind, and it’s also well known for the area’s annual Pirate festival. Many of the street names reflect the towns’ Dutch heritage.

The Cimon Guest House is located 8.2 miles away from Brixham. It’s a 25 minute drive or alternatively you can walk down to Torquay harbour and get the local ferry for around £7 return.
